The design places a large kitchen dining space at the heart of the house by combining the original service kitchen, rear dining room and a portion of the hall. A north facing counter window and west facing patio doors provide direct light and views.
A pitched zinc roof and brick extension provides through views to the garden, from which it adopts its angled geometry in plan. A low vaulted ceiling gives the room a generous spacious quality. The corner chimneybreast contains a built in stove that provides depth on the outside for a porch and roof overhang. A full height window along the south facing patio provides space inside for a storage bench and shelving. The low height of the roof eaves greatly reduces the impact of the extension on daylight levels of both the internal and external surrounding ground floor spacesPóirse Gairdín
